Showtime Lakers scripted series being developed

HBO is planning a scripted series based on Jeff Pearlman's book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s, according to Lesley Goldberg of The Hollywood Reporter. The show will obviously follow the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s, and will be made by a Hollywood roster almost as strong as those Showtime teams. Oscar-nominated director Adam McKay is helming the project and will direct the first episode, while Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island screenwriter Max Borenstein will write the script for the pilot. Casting has already begun for principle figures Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Pat Riley, and the creators are quite enthused about the project.
